Steve’s role at Hypur Ventures is to guide portfolio construction and deal structuring. Steve brings more than 30 years of capital management experience to the Fund, having founded and run two hedge funds with over $1 billion in assets under management. Steve built his career and reputation around his expertise in alternative investments, including restructurings, venture capital and real estate.
Outside of Hypur Ventures, Steve manages his own capital out of his family office, Van Dyke Holdings. Steve was most recently the founding partner of New York-based BHR Capital LLC, a hedge fund with over $1 billion in assets under management at the time of his departure in 2012. Steve founded BHR’s predecessor firm, Bay Harbour Management, L.C. in 1996, growing it into a $1 billion distressed-debt focused hedge fund.
Steve is currently a Director of American Banknote Corp. (a secure payment, credit card and documents company), Pure Greens (a Colorado wholesale cannabis company) and GCH, Inc. (the parent company of the Willie’s Reserve brand). He is a former director of TelCove, Inc., a telecom provider, and Great Destinations, Inc., a timeshare sales business. Steve graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1981 with his BBA in Finance. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst, a member of the Association for Investment Management and Research and the Society of International Business Fellows.
Christopher’s role at Hypur Ventures is to develop the strategy of the fund and to execute that strategy through the sourcing of investment opportunities. As Chairman and CEO of Hypur, Inc., Christopher is in contact with industry players of all kinds, as a service provider and strategic partner. Businesses are not in competition with Hypur but instead are able to accelerate their growth by being part of the Hypur platform. The cannabis industry – from state and local governments to financial institutions to cannabis businesses – are all interested in having access to electronic payment through Hypur. Christopher’s cell phone rings a lot.
Prior to founding Hypur in 2014, Christopher founded and served as CEO and Chairman of several public and private companies. He began his career in investment banking – focusing on mergers and acquisitions and structured finance – and has deep experience in corporate finance, hedge fund and private equity strategies.
Rip is responsible for advising on investment strategies for Hypur Ventures, bringing over four decades of experience running successful companies.
Rip served as Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer for Strategic Hotels & Resorts, Inc. from November 2012 to December 2015, when the company was sold to Blackstone for $6 billion.
Prior to his position as Chairman and CEO of Strategic Hotels, he retired from Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide in March of 2008 where he held the position of President, Global Development Group. Prior to that, Rip served as Chairman and CEO of Starwood Vacation Ownership, Inc., and was a Director of Starwood Vacation Ownership Inc.
Rip was formerly Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Vistana, Inc., a public vacation ownership company acquired by Starwood in 1999. He joined Vistana in 1980 and was instrumental in leading the company’s development, the sale of the company in 1986, re-acquiring the assets of the Vistana entities from General Development Corporation in 1991 and launching a successful initial public offering of Vistana in 1997.
He holds an MBA in Finance, Accounting and Marketing from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management (1974), as well as a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology from Denison University (1969).
Scott’s role at Hypur Ventures is to source, structure, negotiate and execute portfolio investments. Scott has held the same role as a partner at the family office investment firm, Van Dyke Holdings, since its inception in 2013. Since the founding of Van Dyke Holdings, Scott has been responsible for the firm’s private investment portfolio, and he led the efforts of the family office’s investment into the cannabis industry with its initial deal dating back to the start of 2014.
Prior to joining Van Dyke Holdings, Scott was a Vice President with Bay Harbour Management, a distressed-debt focused hedge fund. He joined Bay Harbour in 2004 after working in the Financial Restructuring Advisory Group at CIBC World Markets.
Scott is currently a Director of Hypur, Inc. and Simplifya Holdings, LLC. He was also the former Chairman of Island One, Inc., a timeshare company based in Orlando, FL and a former Director of Great Destinations, Inc., a timeshare sales business based in California. Scott holds a B.A. in Architecture from Columbia University.
Chris is responsible for sourcing, structuring, negotiating and executing portfolio investments for Hypur Ventures. Chris joined Hypur Ventures in 2016 following its merger with Anslinger Capital, the cannabis venture fund that he co-founded in 2013.
Prior to leading Anslinger, Chris also led the efforts of his family’s investment office, RBG Capital Advisors, LLC, into the cannabis industry in early 2012. Outside of Hypur Ventures, Chris is a Managing Partner at RBG and, since joining, has mainly been responsible for structuring, negotiating, and managing the firm’s private investment portfolio. Prior to joining RBG, he was a Manager in Hyatt Hotel’s Global Real Estate & Development Finance group.
Chris is currently a Director of Dope Media, LLC and Calyx Brands. He is also an Advisor to Headset and Cannasure Insurance Services. Chris holds an M.B.A in Finance and Strategy from Case Western University’s Weatherhead School of Management and a B.A. in History and Economics from Denison University. He lives in Winter Park, Florida with his wife and three children.
Brett is responsible for sourcing, structuring, negotiating and executing portfolio investments for Hypur Ventures. Brett joined Hypur Ventures in 2016 following its merger with Anslinger Capital, the cannabis venture fund that he co-founded in 2013.

Outside of Hypur Ventures, Brett is a Managing Partner at RBG Capital Advisors, LLC. Since founding RBG in 2009, Brett has been responsible for structuring, executing, and managing the firm’s private investment portfolio. Prior to his involvement with RBG, Brett was a Director in Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide’s Real Estate Acquisitions & Development group, as well as a financial analyst in Turner Broadcasting System’s Strategic Planning group.
Brett currently serves as a board member of Quantum Power Munich GmbH. Brett holds a B.A. in Economics from Emory University, and lives in Winter Park, Florida with his wife and two children.
Tahira is responsible for the advisory and management of portfolio companies as well as investment sourcing and execution for Hypur Ventures. Utilizing her background and experience with startups, finance and the cannabis industry she serves as a strategic advisor to early stage venture leaders and investors. She has a passion for developing female leadership in the cannabis industry and is a proponent of social justice initiatives that empower communities adversely affected by the war on drugs. She was named one of the Most Powerful Women in the Cannabis Business by Fortune Magazine and Complex.
Prior to joining Hypur Ventures, Tahira served as the General Manager of Marley Natural, where she was responsible for the brand launch as well as managing the day-to-day operations of the company. She also was a Portfolio Manager at City First Enterprises where she was responsible for underwriting, structuring and managing deals for their community development and investment portfolio. Before this position, Tahira was an associate at Perry Capital where she led research initiatives for their asset-backed securities team. Her career path as a consultant began at Ernst & Young’s Financial Services Advisory practice.
Tahira earned an MBA from the Yale School of Management, where she was a Yale Entrepreneurial Institute Venture Creation Advisor. She holds a B.S. in Business Administration as well as one in Pre-Medicine from Ohio State University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and was a Presidential Scholar. She currently resides in New York City.
